The short version

  • Each has a real cost: Plane self-hosted Community edition requires managing your own Docker/Kubernetes infra plus your own PostgreSQL, Redis, and S3-compatible/GCS/MinIO storage; no single-binary install; UnoPIM self-hosted. There is no vendor-run cloud option, so somebody has to run PHP 8.4, a supported MariaDB, MySQL or PostgreSQL, and keep them patched.
  • They diverge on capability: Plane covers Issue tracking, UnoPIM covers Product Infromation Management System.
  • Prices and features above were last checked on 15 September 2026.

Where each one falls short

Documented limitations, not opinions. Every one is a constraint you would hit in normal use.

Plane

  • Self-hosted Community edition requires managing your own Docker/Kubernetes infra plus your own PostgreSQL, Redis, and S3-compatible/GCS/MinIO storage; no single-binary install
  • Cloud Free tier caps at 12 users and 500 AI credits per seat per month
  • Substantial feature gating by tier: custom work item types, workspace wiki, time tracking, dashboards, initiatives, teamspaces, and integrations require Pro or above; LDAP, granular access control, and multi-workflow approvals require Enterprise Grid
  • Guest-to-paid-member ratio capped at 1:5 on the Pro plan

UnoPIM

  • Self-hosted. There is no vendor-run cloud option, so somebody has to run PHP 8.4, a supported MariaDB, MySQL or PostgreSQL, and keep them patched.
  • The stack is specific and recent. Laravel 13 on PHP 8.4.1 or newer rules out shared hosting and older managed PHP environments.
  • Younger than the established PIM tools it competes with, first released in 2024, so there is less third-party tooling and a smaller pool of implementers.
  • Support is community-driven unless you buy it from Webkul. The MIT licence carries no SLA.
  • The AI content generation and AI agent chat depend on third-party model providers you supply and pay for separately.
