Answered from the vendors’ own pages
Vite: Does Vite support CommonJS dependencies?
Vite automatically converts CommonJS dependencies to ES modules during pre-bundling using esbuild, but it does not support Node.js built-in polyfills. For projects requiring Node builtins, additional configuration may be needed.
SourceZed: What platforms does Zed support?
Zed is available for macOS, Linux, and Windows, providing cross-platform support for developers.
SourceVite: Can Vite work offline?
Vite requires internet for initial dependency pre-bundling with esbuild. Once dependencies are pre-bundled and cached, development can continue with local file serving, but full offline development is not supported.
SourceZed: Is Zed free to use?
Yes. Zed is open-source software available free to download and use. The editor and GPUI framework are available under open-source licenses (GPL for editor, Apache/MIT for GPUI).
SourceVite: What are Vite's system requirements on Windows?
Vite can run on Windows, but WSL2 users may experience file watching issues where Vite cannot detect file changes in certain conditions. Windows users with project paths containing ampersands may encounter module resolution failures with npm.
SourceZed: What makes Zed fast compared to other editors?
Zed is written in Rust and uses GPU-accelerated rendering to achieve startup times under 500ms and keystroke latency below 2ms.
SourceVite: Does Vite support TypeScript, JSX, and CSS out of the box?
Yes. Vite natively supports TypeScript, JSX, CSS, and WebAssembly without additional configuration needed for basic use.
SourceZed: Does Zed support real-time collaboration?
Yes. Zed provides real-time collaborative editing and screen sharing capabilities, enabling multiple developers to work on the same code simultaneously.
SourceZed: What AI models does Zed support?
Zed supports multiple AI models and agents for agentic editing, enabling human-AI collaboration during development.
SourceZed: When was Zed 1.0 released?
Zed 1.0 was officially released on April 29, 2026, marking the stable production release.
